Young Artist and Recitalist Competitions

News from the Bay Philharmonic Guild about two great youth competitions.

55th ANNUAL YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITION
JANUARY 6, 2024

The 55th Annual Young Artists competition was held on Saturday, January 6th and administered by the Bay Philharmonic Guild. This year's competition was open to piano, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. We had 10 participants ranging from age 11-17.

The judges awarded $1,000 for 1st place to Xinran Shi, playing Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini. $500 for 2nd place went to Connor Roham, playing Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1 in e minor. $250 for 3rd place went to Katelyn Deng, playing Liszt's 2nd Piano Concerto.

The Dockter Award in the amount of $150 was given to Meining Wu, playing the first movement of Prokofiev's 3rd piano concerto. This award is given to the top player, age 16 and under, playing one movement of a concerto. Both Xinran and Meining played excerpts of their pieces during Saturday's Bay Philharmonic Youth Orchestra performance (3 pm on January 13th, at Irvington Presbyterian Church).

They absolutely entertained all with their magnificent talent.
